Description Solution for injection in ampoules or prefilled syringes.
Indications Acute anaphylaxis when intramuscular route has been ineffective.

Contra Indications Contraindications are relative (ie, not absolute in life- threatening emergency situations) . Shock (other than anaphylactic shock), organic heart disease, or cardiac dilatation, arrhythmias, organic brain damage, or cerebral arteriosclerosis. Narrow angle glaucoma. Use during general anaesthesia with chloroform, trichloroethylene, or cyclopropane. Use cautiously, if at all, with other halogenated hydrocarbon anaesthetics. Use in fingers, toes, ears, nose or genitalia. Use during the second stage of labour. Lactation.
Special Precautions Intramuscular injection into the buttocks - risk of tissue necrosis. Prolonged use can result in severe metabolic acidosis. Contains sodium metabisulphite - may cause allergic reactions in susceptible individuals.
Interactions Other sympathomimetics, alpha- blockers, beta-blockers, general anaesthetics, cardiac glycosides, TCADs, some antihistamines (eg, diphenhydramine), thyroid hormones. Insulin, oral hypoglycaemics.
Adverse Drug Reactions Anxiety, dyspnoea, hyperglycaemia, restlessness, palpitations, tachycardia, tremors, weakness, dizziness, headache, and coldness of the extremities may occur even with small doses of adrenaline. Palpitation and tachycardia. Adrenaline can cause potentially fatal ventricular arrhythmias including fibrillation, especially in patients with organic heart disease or receiving other drugs that sensitise the heart to arrhythmias. Repeated injections of adrenaline can cause necrosis. Tissue necrosis may also occur in liver.
